StockWatch: OF Shin-Soo Choo
Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo suffered through an injury-plagued 2016 season that is creating an excellent buying opportunity in what could be a nice bounce-back season for the 34-year-old Korean. He only played in 48 games last season, yet still managed 7 homers and 6 steals while maintaining his always-stellar plate discipline (11.9 BB%). Just as recently as 2015, Choo slashed .276/.375/.463 with 22 homers, 94 runs, 82 RBIs and 4 steals.
We have him projected to slash .265/.365/.433 with 18 homers and 8 steals in 581 plate appearances. This puts Choo at No. 46 in our outfielder rankings, yet he is just No. 79 in Fantasy Pros’ expert consensus ranking and No. 84 in its ADP. It may seem like we’re asking a lot for Choo to get back to 581 PAs, but he averaged 645 PAs from 2012-2015. Choo can be a solid contributor across the board as a ceiling, so look for him as a value in 2017.
