Spring Training Spotlight: Kyle Schwarber
RotoAce will take a look at key story lines in our Spring Training Spotlight feature.
Cubs C/OF Kyle Schwarber is getting a lot of love after his impressive rookie campaign, which saw him hit .246/.355/.487 with 16 HRs in 232 ABs.
The biggest question for fantasy baseball owners is: Will he continue to maintain his catcher eligibility or become just a very good outfielder.
RotoAce.com’s projection (.262/.353/.483, 28 HR, 87 RBIs) for Schwarber makes him the No. 2 catcher, right behind Buster Posey as the only two guys in the first tier. But, if he were to lose eligibility after this season, his projection makes him just the 24th-ranked outfielder.
It appears, for now, that Schwarber could make enough appearances to qualify next year, but long term, he’s probably an outfielder. Which means, if you get someone to pay dearly for his catcher eligibility, it might be worth exploring, since his value may never be higher than it is right now.
