DFS pitchers for April 29

New York Yankees v Toronto Blue Jays

We’re diving into the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) craze and will be bringing you the two pitchers we’re using in Draft Kings with other possibilities as well.

Carlos Martinez: The Cardinals flame-thrower has been tremendous this season (2-0, 1.35 ERA, 9.5 K/9) and gets the weak-hitting Phillies today. Martinez has historically had trouble with lefties, but the only significant left-handed hitters in Philadelphia’s lineup are aging stars Ryan Howard and Chase Utley. Martinez draws a matchup with a hot pitcher in Aaron Harang, but the 13-6 Cardinals at home should handle the 8-13 Phillies. Using Martinez instead of Felix Hernandez allowed us to get some studs in the lineup, although this is a tough day for hitters since there’s very few below-average pitchers going.

Michael Pineda: The Yankees ace now that Masahiro Tanaka is on the DL gets a matchup with the uninspiring Rays lineup in New York. Pineda has been so good (3-0, 3.86 ERA, 27-2 K-BB in 25.2 IP) that we’re riding his hot hand despite a tough opposing pitcher in Drew Smyly, who is making just his second start of the DL.

We are also using Felix Hernandez but it’s hard to find many cheap hitters with good matchups. We like Dallas Keuchel, but he’s got a tough matchup against Andrew Cashner and the righty-heavy Padres lineup. There aren’t very many stacking opportunities, but our favorite is Mariners right-handed hitters against Wandy Rodriguez in Texas. We used Nelson Cruz and have lineups with lefty-mashers Justin Ruggiano and Rickie Weeks.
