DFS pitchers for April 27
We’re diving into the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) craze and will be bringing you the two pitchers we’re using in Draft Kings with other possibilities as well.
John Lackey: We were about to take David Price at Minnesota for $10,400 when we noticed his velocity is down, walk rate is up and xFIP is up, so we went looking for a bargain and found it in the Cardinals veteran. Lackey was hit hard by the mighty Nationals his last time out, but his walk rate is down and velocity is fine so we like him for a favorable home matchup against the light-hitting Phillies. Lackey costs just $2,400, so we used that money to upgrade from Everth Cabrera to Billy Hamilton at shortstop and Yunel Escobar to Kris Bryant at third base.
Chase Anderson: The fantasy community still hasn’t caught on to how good the D-backs righty is, as he’s the third-cheapest pitcher today at $5,400 for his home matchup against the Rockies, whose lineup suffers away from Coors Field. Anderson has a 3.28 xFIP with strong rates of 8.0 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9. His average fastball velocity is already up from last year’s 91.1 mph to 91.3 in his first three starts this season. Using Anderson allowed us to load the lineup with stars like Giancarlo Stanton (vs. Dillon Gee), Bryce Harper (vs. Eric Stults) and Adam Jones (vs. Hector Noesi).
We still would recommend Price if you can find enough value hitters. You can stack with Marlins, Nationals and Orioles against the weak pitchers they’re going against mentioned above. We could also get behind Jason Hammel, Jimmy Nelson or Taijuan Walker, but we felt money was better spent elsewhere.
