DFS pitchers for April 26

Drew Pomeranz

We’re diving into the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) craze and will be bringing you the two pitchers we’re using in Draft Kings with other possibilities as well.

Drew Pomeranz: The A’s lefty has terrific peripherals that belie his season record of 1-2 with a 4.24 ERA, as Pomeranz has a strikeout rate of 9.0 K/9 and a walk rate of 1.1 BB/9 that helps result in a 2.88 xFIP. He gets a rematch against the strikeout-prone Astros lineup, which got to him for four run in five innings 11 days ago. The price is right at $6,600, making him $300 cheaper than what Tim Lincecum was going to be at Coors Field before the Rockies-Giants game was rained out.

Francisco Liriano: The Pirates ace has been electric so far this season, striking out 11.5 K/9 while cutting his walk rate to 3.0 BB/9. Liriano’s 2.54 xFIP is even better than the 3.00 ERA he has accrued in three starts, so it’s time he get his first victory of the season in the matchup at Arizona against the uninspiring Jeremy Hellickson. Liriano is the highest-priced of the late-game options at $8,500, but paired with Pomeranz there was still money left for stars like Nelson Cruz, Andrew McCutchen, Starling Marte and Lucas Duda.

We also considered Seattle’s Roenis Elias at home against Minnesota and Kyle Gibson for $7,200 and San Diego’s Brandon Morrow at home against the Dodgers and Scott Baker for $6,800, but are shaky on both.
