DFS pitchers for April 19

Stephen-Strasburg-006

We’re diving into the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) craze and will be bringing you the two pitchers we’re using in Draft Kings with other possibilities as well.

Stephen Strasburg: If Strasburg can’t earn a win against the hapless Phillies with putrid David Buchanan (11.42 ERA) pitching in Washington, and do it in dominating fashion, then maybe it’s time to sell on the big righty in yearly leagues. The Nationals are overwhelming -229 favortes on vegasinsider.com, so even $10,100 seems like a bargain. The only reason Strasburg is coming this “cheap” is because he’s struggled out of the gate to a 6.75 ERA. We’re betting he gets things turned around today.

Brandon McCarthy: The Dodgers right-hander is hiding behind a 6.75 ERA that belies the stuff he’s flashed thus far, as he has astounding peripherals (14.3 K/9, 0.8 BB/9) as well as a fastball that is averaging a career-best 93.6 mph. The Dodgers are facing erratic rookie Eddie Butler and a Rockies team that is always less comfortable on the road. McCarthy is our bargain pick of the day at $8,000.

There’s another comparable bargain we’re pairing with McCarthy on a lineup that allows us to load up on stud hitters (Mike Trout, Bryce Harper and Nelson Cruz) and that’s Shane Greene, the Tigers breakout pitcher who takes a 0.00 ERA into a start against Jose Quintana and the White Sox. Greene costs just $6,000, which is an outright steal. We also love Matt Harvey at home against the Marlins and Tom Koehler, but he’s expensive at $9,900 and will be heavy used against an opponent that’s a whole lot tougher than Strasburg vs. Philadelphia.

We’re stacking lineups from the Mariners vs. Texas’ Ross Detwiler, the Nationals against Buchanan and hitters from both sides of a Twins-Indians matchup that features struggling Trevor May and T.J. House.
