Cole Hamels, the Rangers’ co-ace along with Yu Darvish, has been one...
DFS pitchers for April 16
We’re diving into the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) craze and will be bringing you the two pitchers we’re using in Draft Kings with other possibilities as well.
Doug Fister: The Nationals are a -134 favorite on vegasinsider.com yet Fister is just $7,700 while his opponent Cole Hamels is $10,000. Throw in that Fister is a heck of a pitcher himself and gets to face the Phillies’ pathetic lineup again (6.1 scoreless innings in his season debut last week) and you have a tremendous value here. Philadelphia’s “big guns” of Chase Utley and Ryan Howard are batting .214 and .167, respectively, in their careers against Fister.
Archie Bradley: This is a bit of a flyer as Bradley is facing Madison Bumgarner, but the Giants ace was crushed in his last start for 10 hits and five runs in three innings at San Diego, so he’s certainly not invincible. There are a slew of D-backs hitters who have had success against Mad-Bum in their careers – Aaron Hill (7-for-28 with 2 HR), A.J. Pollock (8-for-28 with 1 HR) and hopefully Jordan Pacheco plays, as the backup catcher is 10-for-27 with 1 HR and 6 RBIs. But this is more about Bradley, who outdueled Clayton Kershaw his last time out with six shutout innings against the Dodgers. The Giants lineup is still without Hunter Pence and all but Joe Panik will be facing Bradley for the first time. Spending just $6,400 on Bradley allowed us to put premium hitters in our lineup like Giancarlo Stanton.
Other pitchers we like today besides our two picks include Chris Archer ($7,500 in Toronto’s hitter-friendly park but opposing shaky Aaron Sanchez) and Jason Vargas (just $6,700 at fly-ball Target Field and against a Twins roster that has historically struggled against the Royals’ crafty lefty).
There isn’t really a punching bag going today, so we aren’t really stacking against a certain pitcher although we looked hard for hitters going against Dillon Gee (Dee Gordon), Jarred Cosart (Travis d’Arnaud) and Tommy Milone – most every Royals hitter owns the Twins lefty, especially Salvador Perez (.364 with 3 HR), Kendrys Morales (.375 with 2 HR), Lorenzo Cain (.387 with 1 HR), Alcides Escobar (.412 with 5 RBIs) and Mike Moustakas (.379 with 2 HR).
